Video: Gowdy Again Furiously Defends Violence Against Women Act
Rep. Trey Gowdy delivered a fiery speech about Congress' inability to agree on passage of Violence Against Women Act.
Rep. Trey Gowdy spoke sternly, loudly and sometimes approached yelling during a fiery speech on the floor of the House of Representatives on Thursday as he railed against the House's inability to pass the Violence Against Women Act.Â
Gowdy told the store of Liz Chesterman, who was killed by her husband with a shovel in South Carolina as a powerful andectdote about the need for the bill.Â
"With just a little bit of luck, she would be representing South Carolina in congress," Gowdy said.Â

Instead, she's now in a cemetery.Â
"The monster is this broken political system that we have," Gowdy said. "A broken political system which manufactures reasons to oppose otherwise good bills just to deny one side a victory."Â

Gowdy's remarks aren't the first time he implored his colleagues to put aside partisan politics to support the bill.Â
