Video: Wade Hampton Girls Fall To Dorman In Upper State Final

Wade Hampton girls finish season with 23-4 record.

Despite playing in its first year at the AAAA level this year, Wade Hampton's girls basketball team still found itself Friday where it was a year ago - playing in the Upper State title game.

The outcome, however, was decidedly different this year. The Lady Generals, who decively defeated Clinton a year ago to advance to the State Title game, dropped a thriller to Dorman High on Friday night.

Wade Hampton lost 49-45, despite impressive scoring performances by guards Rebecca Spry and Nikki Young.

The Generals were trailing 23-17 at halftime, but surged early in the second quarter, at one point scoring five unanswered points to take a 30-29 lead.

But in the end, Dorman's quickness and pressure defense did enough to disrupt the Generals half-court offense down the stretch. Down 47-42 with under a minute left, Spry knocked down a 3-pointer to give WHHS a glimmer of hope, cutting the lead to two, but the Cavaliers knocked down their foul shots in a one-and-one trip at the free-throw line after being fouled while inbounding the ball.
