Mayor TenHaken participated in a hearing on mobile technology and infrastructure today to share his support of telecommunication infrastructure investments and the City of Sioux Falls’ approach to small cell and 5G towers.

At the “The Evolution of Next-Generation Technologies: Implementing MOBILE NOW” hearing of the U.S. Senate Committee of Commerce, Science, and Transportation Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation, and the Internet, Mayor TenHaken presented the case for embracing new technology, such as 5G, to drive innovation, economic development, workforce opportunities, and enhanced city services for residents of Sioux Falls.

“Cutting-edge technology, innovation, forward-thinking, and proactive planning are crucial to preparing Sioux Falls and the region for quality of life improvements driven by technology advancements, and 5G plays a pivotal role in the equation,” said Mayor TenHaken.

On November 1, 2019, Verizon announced Sioux Falls as a 5G community with an active network in Downtown Sioux Falls.
