Daniel Webb, a 28-year-old former reliever for the Chicago White Sox, died in rural Humphreys County when his ATV rolled over Saturday night

WAVERLY, TN — Former Major League pitcher Daniel Webb died Saturday in an ATV wreck in rural Humphreys County, about 65 miles west of Nashville.
Webb, 28, spent parts of four seasons with the Chicago White Sox before his release in November 2016. The Humphreys County Sheriff's Department said that Webb was riding his ATV in the woods on his farm outside of Waverly when he hit an object, rolling the ATV and breaking his neck. Three other people, including Webb's wife, who he recently married, were injured, the sheriff's office said.

He made his major league debut for the Southsiders in Yankee Stadium in September 2013. The first batter he faced was Derek Jeter, who he walked. He went on to make 94 appearances for the Sox over the next four seasons, primarily as a middle reliever, finishing with a record of 7-5 and a 4.50 earned run average. Webb had a bit of a reputation for occasional control problems; he finished fifth in the American League in wild pitches in 2014 despite pitching only 67 innings.
Webb had Tommy John surgery in June 2016 and was released by Chicago later that year.
Sunday afternoon the White Sox released a statement:
Daniel left many friends within the Chicago White Sox organization, and we are all shocked and stunned by the news of last night’s terrible accident. He was a terrific young man with a full life ahead of him. All thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends as they deal with today’s tragic news.
