How to Adopt-a-Red-Kettle With the Salvation Army

Support the Salvation Army by requesting your own iconic red donation bucket this December.

ANTIOCH-SOUTH NASHVILLE, TN - The Salvation Army always steps up their game during the holidays. The officers dress in festive St. Nicholas garb and bust out their iconic red kettle buckets for donations. Salvation Army officers aren't the only ones capable of carrying a red bucket this holiday season-you can 'adopt' your very own. The money raised from these donations allows the Salvation Army to provide various services to populations of people in need. Services like:

  • Disaster Response: helps provide care for survivors of man-made and natural disasters,
  • Social Services: provides food and shelter to people in need
  • Casework and Counseling: health care and residential counseling services
  • Youth Services: programs for music, athletics and academics
  • Senior Centers: maintaining 8 senior centers, which are partially subsidized by federal funding
  • Christmas Programs: the red kettle bells assist families enjoy their Christmas by providing food, shelter and presents to those in need
  • Human and Sexual Trafficking Advocacy: army officers and staff focus on influencing public policy in Washington, D.C.

History of the Red Kettle

Ever wondered where the Red Kettle came from? It originated in the late 19th century in San Francisco and by 1901 made it's way to Madison Square Garden in New York. This iconic donation bucket is now a philanthropic epidemic and is used to raise money in countries as far away as Korea, Japan, Chile and many other European nations.

How to Adopt-a-Kettle

  • Option 1 - Adopt-a-kettle for $100 for a half day or $200 for a full day. You won't have to leave your home or office and you'll be supporting a great cause
  • Option 2 - Adopt-a-kettle and babysit him at your own location. You can recruit friends and family to help watch the kettle. You'll also get a kettle kit, including: A Red Kettle and Bell, Flyers for promoting your kettle, Adoption Certificate with your organizations logo
  • Option 3 - Adopt-a-kettle and babysit it at an auxiliary location. There are locations in Davidson, Williamson and Sumner Counties, and Downtown Nashville.
