Lafayette The Long-Time Shelter Pup Finally Gets His Forever Home

After more than 200 days in the shelter and with an assist from Williamson County, Lafayette has a home.

FRANKLIN, TN — After more than 200 days and a move from Nashville to Franklin, Lafayette — the longest-sheltered dog at Metro Animal Care and Control — has found his forever home.

In August, after 120 days in the shelter MACC thought the 3-year-old pit bull mix had found his place, but the adopters had to return him because the circumstances weren't right. Lafayette was part of both one of the biggest adoption weekends in shelter history and then part of the biggest intake day in shelter history.

After 160 days at MACC's Harding Place shelter, officials tried something new: a swap with Williamson County.

“What we have learned is census matters. You want to change the dogs you have in the shelter. You never know, when he enters Williamson County, an adopter could be right behind us,” MACC spokesperson Rebecca Morris told WTVF September 20.

On Saturday, MACC was happy to report that the plan worked.

"Today our hearts are full because Lafayette a dog down on his luck but ever so deserving of a home found one today," MACC wrote on Facebook. "Two shelters came together and worked tirelessly for Lala. So join with us as we celebrate this pup's journey home after over 200 days in the shelters."

Meanwhile, Metro's shelter is at capacity and adoptions are half-off through October 8.
