MNPS Students Honor MLK With Winning T-Shirt Designs
Connor Russo of Hillwood High School won first place, while Adia Musana of Antioch High School placed second.

Two MNPS students have submitted winning T-shirt designs celebrating the life and work of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in a contest held by the Nashville MLK Day Youth Committee.

Connor Russo of Hillwood High School won first place with a colorful drawing of the great civil rights leader in a thoughtful pose beneath the words “For Our Children.” Adia Musana of Antioch High School won second place with a design featuring King’s face and the words “Moving the Movement: Honoring Our Past, Present and Future” on the front and a quotation from King on the back, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter,” over the message “A Change Begins Within You.”
Each of the prize-winning T-shirts is available for a donation of $30 or more to the Interdenominational Ministers Fellowship’s Community Fund. The IMF has organized the annual MLK Day March and Convocation since 1989.

The 2021 MLK Day activities are scheduled to begin Thursday, Jan. 14, with speakers including MNPS Director of Schools Adrienne Battle; Board of Education Chairwoman Christiane Buggs; Board of Education member Sharon Gentry; Executive Officer for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Ashford Hughes; and Hillsboro High School student Alora Young, Nashville’s youth poet laureate.
