Nashville Ikea To Open In 2020

Cult Swedish consumer-durables retailer IKEA will begin construction in southeast Davidson County in 2019 for a Summer 2020 opening.

NASHVILLE, TN — For now, Nashvillians who need durable items from Sweden packaged in gold and blue will have to be content with the five Swedes who play for the Predators. Ikea announced Thursday its new Nashville store won't open its doors until 2020.

Still, after years of waiting for the beloved furniture and whathaveyou retailer, what's another three years?

At a press conference at the Music City Center, the company said it will begin construction on the projected 341,000 square-foot store in the Century Farms mixed-use development in the summer of 2019. The store will be south of Bell Road and west of Interstate 24, connected by a new Hickory Hollow Parkway interchange.

"We are excited at the possibility of growing our southeastern U.S. presence with a southeastern store," Ikea U.S. president Lars Petersson said in a statement. "This location would provide our already 140,000 Nashville-area customers their own store and introduce the unique Ikea shopping experience to others throughout Middle Tennessee."
