No Shortage of Ideas at First Community Meeting on Greer Stadium's Future

Everything from a dog park to a history theme park to affordable housing was mentioned as possibilities for Greer's future.

NASHVILLE, TN — Ideas were as plentiful as the suds at Dollar Beer Night during the first of two community meetings to brainstorm the future of Greer Stadium.

The meeting room at Adventure Science Center was packed Wednesday night as area residents and interested people from across the city met in a session with Councilman Colby Sledge to discuss what to do with the disused 39-year-old former home of the Nashville Sounds, left vacant when the team decamped for Germantown in the 2015 season.

The Tennessean reports ideas ranged from a dog park to tennis courts to a greenway to affordable housing, all of which have been mentioned before. With a local group of business leaders exploring the possibility of a Major League Soccer expansion franchise, building a soccer stadium on Greer's footprint was discussed, as was an outdoor music venue.

Even Civil War enthusiasts, history buffs and advocates for nearby Ft. Negley had a suggestion of their own: a theme park, or maybe just a themed park.

"It could be a theme that revolves around the historic nature of the fort," Jim Forkum, chair of the Metro Historical Commission, said, according to the newspaper.
