Publix Headed For Melrose

Publix is looking to build a 45,000 square-foot store on Eighth Avenue.

NASHVILLE, TN — Publix plans to build its ninth Nashville location in Melrose, but it needs approval from the Metro Board of Zoning Appeals first.

The current owner of the site — the Neal family — and the developer CHM-EOW LLC are asking for a special exception from Metro's height and setback requirements for the property at the corner of Eighth Avenue South and Bradford that's the former home of Frank E. Neal & Co. insurance agency. The proposal calls for a 39,600 square-foot store with a two-level parking garage beneath. At 39,600 square feet, it is smaller than the average 45,000 square foot Publix store.
