Trump KKK Sign Appears Near Nashville's Controversial Forrest Statue Overnight

Both TDOT and the landowner said the sign will be down Monday.

NASHVILLE, TN — Somehow someone figured out how to make the infamous, controversial gargoyle-ish mounted statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest on Interstate 65 even uglier.

Overnight a sign reading “Trump 2016, Make AMERIKKKA Great Again" appeared on a state-owned fence adjacent to the statue, long a source of debate and consternation. It is unknown if the sign was placed by a trickster, a bad speller, a Klan supporter or an agent provocateur.

In any event, both the Tennessee Department of Transportation and landowner Bill Dorris told The Tennessean the sign would be removed post haste, or in Dorris' words, "I’ll have it down before you can say scat.”

Forrest, a Confederate lieutenant general, was the first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, though Dorris said he disbanded it.

"But they never give you credit for disbanding it," he told the newspaper. Dorris also predicted a 270-270 tie in the Electoral College.

The garish statue, built by the late Jack Kershaw, is a source of much hand-wringing in Nashvillle and not just because it looks like something designed for a "House of Wax" version of American history. The state has denied requests by Metro to plant new trees and shrubbery to block the statue from view on the interstate.
