5-Star Vandy Commit Darius Garland, 3 Others Suspended At BA

Brentwood Academy star point guard Darius Garland and three other Eagle hoopsters were suspended after an undisclosed locker room incident.

BRENTWOOD, TN -- Star point guard Darius Garland - a five-star Vanderbilt University commitment - and three other Brentwood Academy players were suspended following an undisclosed "locker room incident."

The incident - which the school insists was not hazing - forced the school to cancel last Friday's game against Bartlett and Garland and the others will not play when the Eagles take on Battle Ground Academy Saturday.

"Last week, a number of students failed to meet the high expectations we have for them at Brentwood Academy. As a result, the students involved have been disciplined," the school said in a statement. "When the school became aware of an incident on last Thursday, we immediately addressed the issue with students involved and their parents. While Brentwood Academy has been transparent about its disciplinary procedures with the students and parents involved, we are committed to protecting the privacy of our students and families. We are not going to elaborate further on student discipline."

The incident comes as the exclusive private school is embroiled in a lawsuit alleging the locker-room rape of a 12-year-old boy during the 2014-15 school year and a subsequent cover-up. The school has denied that incident was covered up.
