Brentwood Firefighters Get Bulletproof Vests

Brentwood Fire and Rescue personnel will soon be kitted out with bulletproof vests.

BRENTWOOD, TN --Brentwood's firefighters and paramedics will soon be outfitted with bulletproof vests and helmet after the city commission approved a $22,000 measure at Monday's meeting.

The gear should be delivered to Brentwood Fire and Rescue within a few weeks.

"As public safety response evolves to meet ever-changing potential risks and hazards, properly training and equipping our first responders is paramount," Brentwood Fire and Rescue Chief Brian Goss said in a release. "Responses involving active shooters and other hostile situations have grown exponentially across the nation in recent years. This is just another step to making our department prepared for any scenario."

Both the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the National Fire Protection Agency have called for firefighters and paramedics to be provided with ballistic gear in recent years.

Brentwood will have enough gear for 25 personnel.
