Brentwood Residents Push Back Against Fire Hall Proposal
A planned fire hall at Split Log and Ragsdale would halve response times, fire officials say, but neighbors aren't happy about the idea.

BRENTWOOD, TN — A fire hall mooted for the intersection of Split Log Road and Ragsdale Road is facing opposition from Tuscany Hills residents, even though construction is "years away" and the facility could halve response times from the fire department.
The 3.13 acre tract was originally planned as open space for the subdivision, but developer Kevin Hyneman offered to donate the land to the city for the new fire hall, part of Brentwood's long-term plan for the area. There is no timetable on construction.

At a Monday meeting, Tuscany Hills residents expressed worries the fire hall would hurt their property values and shared concerns that Split Log and Ragsdale are too narrow to accommodate emergency vehicles, according to The Tennessean. Some worried about the aesthetics of the building and a retaining wall, with Joe Koromboy saying "It's going to look terrible."
Brentwood Fire Chief Brian Goss said that calls in southeast Brentwood are on pace to nearly double since 2014 and that response times in the area are often north of 11 minutes, nearly twice the ideal time of six to six-and-a-half minutes.

After a deferring the land dedication proposal in September, the Planning Commission will take up the offer again October 2 with the potential for a City Commission vote a week later.
