Brentwood Tennessee's Safest City: Report
With low rates of violent and property crimes, Brentwood is Tennessee's safest city, according to a new report.
BRENTWOOD, TN -- Brentwood is Tennessee's safest city, according to a newly released report.
The affluent Nashville suburb had just 25 violent crimes and 397 property crimes in 2016, giving it a violent crime rate of 0.58 per 1,000 and property crime rate of 9.29 per 1,000, far below the state rate of 9.45 violent crimes per 1,000 population and 39.33 property crimes per 1,000.
The National Council for Home Safety and Security used the FBI's Uniform Crime Report statistics, giving more weight to violent crimes and then ranking cities with populations over 10,000.

Spring Hill was named the second safest city. Franklin is eighth.
Nashville, though 37th overall, was the safest city among Tennessee's Big Four metros.

Athens, in McMinn County, is Tennessee's least safe city according to the study.
