City of Brentwood May Chip In For Schools Expansion
The city and the school system are in discussions to bring about a $2.4 million contribution to help fund the expansion at Brentwood High.

BRENTWOOD, TN — The City of Brentwood may contribute more than $2 million to help fund the campus expansion at Brentwood Middle and High schools. The $2.4 million would cover principal and interest payments for the $17.2 million project that includes new classrooms, athletic facilities and parking.
Brentwood allocates roughly $500,000 annually to a fund from proceeds from the county's facilities tax. That fund has remain untouched for several years and has built up a balance of $2.4 million.

In exchange for the contribution, the City of Brentwood would receive certain concessions from the school system, like having access to the athletic facilities for city recreation programs,.
Director of Schools Mike Looney and Brentwood City Manager Kirk Bednar have been discussing the possibility for weeks; on Thursday, Looney formally asked the city commission to consider the proposal at their Monday meeting, coincidentally — or not — the same night the County Commission will vote for funding the project
