WATCH: Brentwood Family Loses Home After Christmas Tree Fire

An investigation is underway in Brentwood, where a large home was destroyed by a fire that may have been started by a Christmas tree.

BRENTWOOD, TN — A spacious Brentwood home is a complete loss after a Thursday night fire. Early indications are the fire on Elmington Court was caused by lights on the family's Christmas tree.

Brentwood Fire crews arrived at the fire shortly after 7:30 p.m., but a large section of the house was already engulfed in flames. When firefighters entered the house, the fire spread quickly up to the second floor, opening the threat of a ceiling collapse.

From then on, crews were forced to fight the fire externally, according to Fire Chief Brian Goss in a video posted on the city's Facebook page.

The homeowner told firefighters that the lights on the family Christmas tree had been left on when the family left home Thursday and while an investigation is expected later Friday, Goss said it seems as though the fire began in the vicinity of the tree.

There were no injuries in the fire.
