Superior Plus Propane (“Superior”), operating locally as Gas Inc., today announced a new charitable giving partnership with Feeding America® to help customers save on propane while giving back to families in need. Every new customer who signs up with Superior by January 31, 2021 will receive a $200 credit, and Superior will donate $25 to a food bank in the customer’s community through Feeding America, a nationwide network of 200 local food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs that together serve more than 40 million people each year.

“Families across America are feeling the strain from the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Lauren Biedron, Vice President of Corporate Partnerships at Feeding America. “As we navigate the coming months, it is support from partners like Superior Plus Propane that help our network of food banks provide more meals to communities in need.”

Superior has committed to donating up to $175,000 - equivalent to 1.75 million meals - in the communities they serve, which spans the East Coast from Florida to Maine, as well as the Midwest and California. With the ability to provide big-time resources with a small-town presence, when the company learned of the new extreme strains placed on food banks during the pandemic, they knew they could help provide much-needed assistance at a local level in a way that would be meaningful to their customers and employees.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), food insecurity is defined as a household-level economic and social condition of limited or uncertain access to adequate food. As of April 2020, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been estimated that the percentage of households in the U.S. deemed food insecure have, at minimum, doubled and possibly tripled. And, with Feeding America projecting California as seeing the highest increase in the number of children living in food-insecure households and increased rates of food insecurity between 14-19 percent in eastern U.S. state populations in 2020, the need for assistance is dire.

“By choosing Gas Inc., you’re not only choosing reliability, convenience and peace of mind – you’re helping your neighbors who may be in crisis,” says Andy Peyton, president of Superior Plus Propane. “We are proud to partner with Feeding America to fuel hope for families and help solve hunger and food insecurity in our community.”
