2 Students At Metro High Schools Arrested With Guns: Police

A Stratford sophomore and a Pearl-Cohn freshman were arrested for carrying guns at school Tuesday, police said.

NASHVILLE, TN -- Students at two Metro high schools were arrested Tuesday for allegedly carrying guns.

Police say a 17-year-old Stratford High School sophomore was seen leaving campus early Tuesday morning and returning at 10 a.m. School administrators stopped him when he returned, asking if he had any contraband and the student allegedly replied that he was carrying a gun in his bag. A search revealed a 9-mm semi-automatic pistol with nine bullets in the magazine, though none were chambered, according to police. The student said someone gave him the gun, which he was carrying for protection.

At Pearl-Cohn, a 15-year-old freshman was arrested after allegedly running from a resource officer. A review of surveillance showed the student hiding an item near the football stadium, according to investigators. Police recovered a 9-mm semi-automatic with one chambered round and eight in the magazine. The student reportedly told police he bought the gun on the street and was carrying it for protection.
