Dozens Evacuated From Old Hickory Neighborhood After Gas Leak

Piedmont Natural Gas said a "third party" nicked a gas line Tuesday night in Old Hickory.

OLD HICKORY, TN -- Dozens of homes in Old Hickory were evacuated Tuesday night after a natural gas pipeline was damaged.

Piedmont Natural Gas said a "third party" damaged the line, causing a leak at 13th Street and Bryan Street, forcing the evacuation of more than 40 homes in the area around 4:30 Tuesday afternoon.

Sources told WKRN it was Nashville Electric Service crews that nicked the line.

Piedmont located a shut-off for the line around 8 p.m. and residents were allowed back into their homes around 9:15 p.m. after Nashville Fire Department crews tested the air.

Piedmont said though residents might continue to smell natural gas, the situation was safe.
