Belmont Buys Site Of Beloved International Market

In a $6.5 million deal, Belmont University acquired International Market and neighboring tracts, but the Boulevard mainstay isn't moving.

NASHVILLE, TN — Though Belmont University purchased International Market & Grocery's property, penny-pinching students and thrifty Nashvillians needn't worry: the Boulevard mainstay that's served up price-conscious Thai food for decades isn't going anywhere.

Belmont paid $6.5 million for four lots at the corner of Belmont Boulevard and Bernard Avenue owned by Win and Prapasri — known to generations as "Patti" — Myint, which includes the Myint's restaurant, which has operated from the site for more than 40 years and is largely responsible for introducing Thai cuisine to Nashville.

Rapidly growing Belmont — the school began fall 2017 with a record 8,080 students, more than triple its enrollment in 2000 — has no immediate plans for the site, but wanted to position itself for future growth.

"I’m excited to see how we can use that corner of the campus in the coming years to serve our students. I’m especially grateful to the Myints for embracing education as the future product of this site; a property that has allowed them to live their dream will now enable future generations to do the same," Belmont president Bob Fisher said in a release.
