A Sackful of Traffic Relief: Krystal Closure Could Ease Hillsboro Congestion Woes

A chain reaction beginning with Krystal going dark may make for better Green Hills driving.

While the tiny burgers may mean indigestion to many, their disappearance could mean less congestion in Green Hills.

The lease for the restaurant at 3715 Hillsboro Pike ends Sunday. CVS, currently at 3801 Hillsboro, has an option to buy the Krystal property — plus has eyes on the neighboring strip. Should CVS exercise its option, Metro will buy the existing CVS and that, according to The Tennessean, could lead to a re-alignment of Glen Echo and Crestmoor.

"Reconfiguring that intersection is a high priority," Metro Councilmember Russ Pulley, who represents Green Hills, told the newspaper. "When you look at all of the traffic studies, realigning our discombobulated intersections -- that's the single most effective way to positively impact the traffic flow on Hillsboro Road. There are some complications we’re trying to work through because the building footprint isn’t exactly what CVS needs."

The owner of the Krystal property has given CVS until mid-December to complete the sale of the adjacent strip.
