Vanderbilt Poll: Donald Trump Has 11-Point Lead in Tennessee

Vanderbilt professor: "Tennessee is going to go Republican. There's no debate about that."

NASHVILLE, TN — Donald Trump is holding an 11-point lead over Hillary Clinton according to the latest Vanderbilt Poll.

The poll of 1,000 likely voters was taken between September 19 and October 3, crossing the first debate between Trump and Clinton, though the pollsters said that had no effect on their numbers.

Real-estate investor and reality TV personality Trump, the Republican nominee, polled at 44 percent, while former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton came in at 33 percent.

The results from West End more or less mirror those which came from farther down I-24, as the MTSU Poll showed a 48-36 lead for Trump over Clinton.

Predictably, Trump had the biggest lead in the traditional Republican stronghold in East Tennessee and in the rural and suburban counties of Middle Tennessee, while Clinton actually leads Trump 46-28 in West Tennessee, driven by heavily Democratic Memphis. Perhaps shockingly, though, her lead in the blue dot of Nashville is only two points: 40 to 38; it's likely that's due to a small sample size with a margin of error that makes the data virtually meaningless.

Trump also leads among millennial voters, with 38 percent. Clinton polled at 28 percent and Johnson 22.
