Watch Out For 'The Gentleman Bandit': Belle Meade Police

A man they are calling "The Gentleman Bandit" may be responsible for a series of scams and car thefts, Belle Meade Police say.

BELLE MEADE, TN -- A well-dressed man may be at the center of a charity scam, Belle Meade Police say. And he may be breaking into cars, too, for that matter.

Belle Meade Investigator Tom Sexton wants to find the man he's dubbed "The Gentleman Bandit," as he's frequently spotted wearing shirt and tie and a distinctive pair of blue shoes.

"He doesn't look like your typical person who would break into a car in an old sweat shirt and jeans," Sexton told WKRN.

Surveillance footage captured the man rifling through an unlocked car on Harding Place and Sexton said he believes he's connected to a group of solicitors who have been knocking on doors throughout the tony suburb, collecting donations for what may be a phony charity.

Sexton told News 2 that one Belle Meader reported that The Gentleman Bandit became angry when the man wrote "donation" instead of "Green dot card" on the memo line of a check.
