Knox County School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations, Conferences

The first day of school in Knox County is August 7. Feel free to mark it on your calendar as one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers — and feel free not to feel guilty about marking it as one of your favorites. The Knox County School District has released its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

Here is the full list of dates to know for this school year:

July

• 7/31: First Day for Teachers (In-service)

August

• 8/1: In-service Day (PreK-12 System-wide)
• 8/2: Administrative Day (Teacher Work Day)
• 8/3: Administrative Day (Teacher Work Day)
• 8/4: In-service Day (Half Day School-based); Administrative Day (Half Day Teacher Work Day)
• 8/7: First Day for Students, Half Day for Students
• 8/21: Solar Eclipse (Inclement Weather Day)

September

• 9/4: No School (Labor Day)

October

• 10/6: End First 9-weeks Grading Period (44 days)
• 10/9 - 10/13: No School (Fall Break)

November

• 11/7: No School for Students (In-service Day)
• 11/22 - 11/24: No School (Thanksgiving Holidays)

December

• 12/20: Half Day for Students, End Second 9-weeks Grading Period (44 days), End First Semester (88 days)
• 12/21 - 1/5: No School (Winter Holidays)

January

• 1/8: No School for Students ( In-service Day, Teacher Work Day)
• 1/9: First Day for Students after Winter Holidays
• 1/15: No School (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day)

February

• 2/19: No School for Students (In-service)

March

• 3/9: End Third 9-weeks Grading Period (42 days)
• 3/12 - 3/16: No School (Spring Break)
• 3/30: No School (Holiday)

April

• 4/2: No School for Students (In-service)

May

• 5/24: Last Day for Students, Half Day for Students
• 5/25: Last Day for Teachers, Administrative Day (Teacher Work Day)
