Accused La Vergne Rapist Shoots Self As Police Arrive
A La Vergne man alleged to have raped an 18-year-old with cerebral palsy reportedly shot himself as police arrived to confront him.

LA VERGNE, TN -- A man accused of raping an 18-year-old with cerebral palsy reportedly shot himself as La Vergne Police arrived to confront him about his alleged crime.
La Vergne Police said the man is the teenager's caretaker and when detectives, SWAT officers and negotiators arrived at the man's apartment Saturday and saw some movement inside.

Police said they heard a gunshot, leading SWAT to enter the apartment and found the suspect with a single gunshot wound to his head.
On-site paramedics began treating the man, who was then taken to a local hospital and then LifeFlighted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he is in critical condition.
