La Vergne Delays Opening of Old Timers' Festival Carnival
Transportation issues have forced La Vergne officials to delay the carnival's opening until Thursday afternoon.
LA VERGNE, TN — City officials have delayed the opening of the Old Timers' Festival carnival until Thursday due to transportation issues.
The carnival at Veterans Memorial Park will now begin 5 p.m. Thursday. This year's carnival is more geared to younger children than in year's past, organizers say.
For more than 35 years, La Vergne has honored its distinguished citizens with the Old Timers' Festival. This year's theme is "Homoetown Heroes." The parade kicking off the event is 10 a.m. Saturday starting at City Hall and ending at Veterans Memorial Park. This year's Grand Marshal is Vinny Pollizzotto, one of the city's oldest World War II veterans.

The festival begins in earnest after the parade at Veterans Memorial Park and includes craft and food vendors. The festival is free. Wristbands for the carnival are $20 for kids and $25 for adults. Individual ride tickets are $1.25. The carnival will run 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and noon until 11 p.m. Saturday.
Murfreesboro Road westbound will close at 9:30 a.m. Saturday for the parade. Westbound traffic between Veterans Memorial Parkway by the post office and 73rd Avenue by the library will be diverted to the eastbound side, with one lane moving in each direction. Residents of Rutherford Pointe and Pattys Cove area will be allowed to leave on Floyd Mayfield toward Sand Hill Road until the parade nears the Floyd Mayfield intersection, at which time, residents will not be able to leave until the parade is complete. Police say traffic will be heavily impacted during the parade at the following intersections along Murfreesboro Road:
