Rutherford County Unemployment Drops Sharply In April

The unemployment rate fell in all 95 Tennessee counties in April with Rutherford's down to 2.2 percent.

NASHVILLE, TN — Rutherford County's unemployment dropped 0.4 percent in April to 2.2 percent, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development, giving it the state's third-lowest rate.

The unemployment rate decreased all 95 counties in April.

Of the ten lowest county-level figures statewide, nine were in Middle Tennessee. Only Williamson (2 percent) and Davidson (2.1 percent) had a lower jobless rate than Rutherford County, which was tied with Wilson County.

In Smyrna, the city-level unemployment rate is estimated at 2.1 percent, a 0.5 percent drop from March, and in La Vergne, it is at 2.3 percent, a 0.6 decrease from the month before.

Rutherford County's unemployment rate has dropped 0.5 percent since April 2017.

The state rate, reported last week, is 3.4 percent for the third consecutive month.
