Rutherford County Unemployment Still Historically Low
A slight uptick notwithstanding, the jobless rate in Rutherford County remained extremely low in May, the state says.

NASHVILLE, TN — Rutherford County's unemployment increased 0.1 percent in May, but remains an extraordinarily low 2.3 percent, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development, giving it the state's third-lowest rate.
The unemployment rate increased in 75 counties in April, decreased in eight and stayed the same in 12 others. Only two of the state's 95 counties have jobless rates above 5 percent.

Of the ten lowest county-level figures statewide, eight were in Middle Tennessee. Only Williamson (2.1 percent) and Davidson (2.2 percent) had a lower unemployment rate than Rutherford County, which was tied with Wilson County.
In Smyrna, the city-level unemployment rate is estimated at 2.2 percent, a 0.1 percent increase from April, and in La Vergne, it is at 2.5 percent, a 0.2 increase from the month before.

Rutherford County's unemployment rate has dropped 0.4 percent since May 2017.
The state rate, reported last week, is 3.5 percent for the third consecutive month.
