Rutherford Election Results: Ketron, Fitzhugh Win May 1 Primaries
State Sen. Bill Ketron and incumbent Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh were among the winners in Tuesday's Rutherford County primaries.

MURFREESBORO, TN -- After three failed attempted two decades ago and four terms in the state senate, Bill Ketron is all but certain to be the next mayor of Rutherford County.
The Republican received more than 46 percent of the vote in Tuesday's county primaries and heads to August's general election where he'll face independent Heather Ann Brown. The Democrats did not have any candidates for mayor in the primary.

Ketron received 6,885 votes, ahead of Randy Allen's 4,655 and Tina Jones' 3,279.

In the other top-of-the-ticket race, incumbent Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh bested his challenger, Jim Tramel II, by more than 8,000 votes and will face independents Deric Haynes and Bill West in the August 2 general election.
The clerical position primaries were far closer. Incumbent circuit court clerk Melissa Harrell bested challenger Robin Eades Gentry by 989 votes; and incumbent register of deeds Heather Dawbarn beat Mimi Genet by 1,800 votes. Neither have opponents in August.
