Tourism Grows in Rutherford County

Spending by visitors grew nearly 3 percent between 2014 and 2015.

MURFREESBORO, TN — Tourism spending in Rutherford County grew by nearly 3 percent in 2015.

According to figures from Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, tourism-related spending in Rutherford County increased from $307.47 million 2014 to $316.45 million in 2015 — growth of 2.9 percent — placing Rutherford County in the top 10 counties across the state, for travel-related expenditures.

“Tourism is a significant economic driver that benefits everyone in the community,” Destination Rutherford chair Bill Jones said, noting that tax collections from visitors, who do not use county services like schools, keep tax bills for residents lower.
