TSSAA Football Playoffs: Smyrna to host Dobyns-Bennett, Stewarts Creek on the road at Hillsboro

State No. 1 seeds loom in the second round for Northern Rutherford teams.

NASHVILLE, TN — After the conclusion of the regular season Friday night, the state's high school football playoff brackets are set with two northern Rutherford County teams playing in the postseason.

The Tennesssee Secondary School Athletic Association announced the Smyrna Bulldogs finished 6-4 and are the No. 10-ranked team in Class 6A, coming fourth in Region 2. The Bulldogs will host Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett (5-5, No. 5 in Region 1) Friday. The winner of that game will play the winner of Maryville and Coffee County in the second round. Maryville, a perennial juggernaut, is the state's top-ranked team.

In Class 5A, Stewarts Creek (6-4) finished as a No. 3 seed in Region 5. The Red Hawks will make a short trip to Hillsboro (6-4), Region 6's No. 2 team. The winner of Friday night's game will face either undefeated state champion Independence, the state's No. 1 team in 5A, or Gallatin.
