LA VERGNE, TN -- Waldron Road business owners may team up in a neighborhood watch in an effort to combat crime after a string of robberies.

At least three businesses along the busy thoroughfare near Interstate 24 have been robbed in recent weeks. On April 2, Waldron Road Tobacco & Beer was robbed at gunpoint by a man with a Tec-9 pistol. A nearby dollar store and gas station have also been held up.

According to WKRN, La Vergne resident Gwendolyn Anthony is trying to organize the business owners after an aggressive neighborhood watch in nearby Farmingdale subdivision helped cut crime there.

Anthony is working with a La Vergne Police Department community liaison officer to organize the neighborhood watch and a meeting to get it up and running should be held in the next few weeks.
