A Metro Police officer shot and killed a 25-year-old man Thursday night.

NASHVILLE, TN — A Metro Police officer shot and killed a 25-year-old man Thursday night.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investiation, the Metro Police Juvenile Crime Task Force was patrolling North Nashville when they spotted a car that had allegedly been reported stolen. MNPD says officers attempted to pull the car over but it sped away and officers did not pursue it, but instead established a wider search area.

Officers encountered the same car and again attempted to stop it, MNPD says, when a man got out of the car with a gun in his hand near 17th Avenue and Jo Johnston. MNPD officer Andrew Delke fired his gun at the man, identified as 25-year-old Daniel Hambrick. Hambrick was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.

Per protocol, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene to investigate. TBI spokesman Josh DeVine said Delke was not wearing a body camera and there was dash cam footage from his patrol car. DeVine said the TBI was gathering video footage from the surrounding area.

The MNPD Twitter account tweeted a photo of a gun Hambrick was allegedly carrying.
