The preliminary investigation shows that both motorists were traveling south on I-65 when Brown, who was driving a 2008 Kia Spectra, passed the driver of a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic, Syliver Chukwuma, 55, at a high rate of speed. As Brown changed into Chukwuma’s lane of travel, the Kia clipped the front end of her car. The Kia struck a concrete wall on the left shoulder of I-65 and then crossed back over all four lanes of travel, colliding with a guardrail. Brown, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he died.
Chukwuma’s car also struck the concrete wall before coming to a stop on the Interstate. Chukwuma, who was wearing her seatbelt, did not appear to be injured. She was transported to Skyline Medical Center.
