Driver Nearly Hit Sheriff's Deputy, Starting 2-County Chase: MNPD

A speeding car nearly hit a Cheatham County sheriff's deputy and then led officers on a chase into Bellevue, police say.

BELLEVUE, TN -- A chase crossing the county line began when a man nearly ran over a Cheatham County sheriff's deputy's car early Thursday morning.

The deputy was working traffic control in an Interstate 40 construction zone when a car went around the wrong side of the cones, nearly rear-ending the patrol car. The deputy tried to pull the driver over, but he sped west on I-40 into Davidson County.

Cheatham County called Metro for back-up and the car was finally stopped at the McCrory Lane exit. The driver was arrested for evading arrest. His passenger was initially let go, but walked back to the car and police said they saw marijuana. He is charged with marijuana possession.
