Lightning Sparks West Nashville House Fire

A bolt of lightning from Sunday morning's storms burned a Hillwood home.

NASHVILLE, TN — Lightning from the brief but intense line of thunderstorms that pushed through the Midstate early Sunday sparked a fire that significant damaged a home in West Nashville.

Nashville Fire crews were called to the home on Vine Ridge between White Bridge Road and Hillwood around 7:30 Sunday morning and found flames shooting from the roof.

The blaze was so intense, additional crews were called in and ultimately 25 firefighters were involved in battling the flames.

Investigators believe a bolt of lightning shot down the chimney and into the home. The attic and several rooms were damaged.

Both people and a dog who were inside were able to make it out safely.
