Man Wanders Broadway Carrying AR-15: Nashville Police

Revelers spotted a 63-year-old man walking down Broadway carrying an AR-15 Thursday night, according to Metro Police.

NASHVILLE, TN -- People are apt to see some bizarre things on a summer night on Nashville's Broadway. Honky-tonkers experienced something as scary as it was strange Thursday night, according to Metro Police.

Dispatchers received numerous calls around 10:30 p.m. Thursday with reports of man walking near the neon canyon carrying a "military-style weapon," investigators said.

Witnesses directed responding officers towards the man, who was eventually found in a Patterson Street alley with an AR-15 and multiple magazines of ammunition. Police say that Michael Ray Jenkins, who has numerous burglary convictions, stole the gun and ammo from a car parked at Demonbreun Street bar.

In addition to the rifle, Jenkins was carrying a bent screwdriver - a common car theft device - and other items stolen from the vehicle, according to the arrest report.

Jenkins is charged with auto burglary, possession of a burglary tool, and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon. He is jailed in lieu of $24,000 bond.
