Meet the Vanderbilt Alumni Helping Families Find Trustworthy Care

Tommy and Ginger Mayfield created a better way to connect college babysitters and busy families.

Any parent knows this classic scenario: you plan a night out, text back and forth (and back and forth) with five different sitters on your list, beg a few friends to give you their prized sitter's info, finally nail something down, and then... they back out, you forget to get cash from the bank to pay them, you can't remember their rates to pay them correctly, or they are amazing but never available again, leaving you with the babysitter blues. Finding a sitter is a frustrating process - which is exactly what Tommy and Ginger Mayfield wanted to change.

The Mayfield's experienced this frustration firsthand while trying to balance a busy work schedule with raising two young daughters. It was hard to plan a night out or find childcare in a pinch when their schedules overlapped. The solution was to create Wyndy, an app that makes it simple for parents to find, book and pay a trusted, background-checked babysitter.

When designing the app, the Vanderbilt alumni (class of '03 and '05, respectively) decided that college students would make up the sitter pool, since they knew that finding flexible work as a college student could be difficult, too. Wyndy allows students to find jobs, meet new families and get more connected in their communities. The Mayfields even recommend putting Wyndy on a resume, since sitters must go through an interview process and a background check.

The app is easy to use for both parties, thanks to a handy filters that sort through the date, time and rates for different jobs. Parents can even add specific details about the job or the type of sitter needed to help narrow down the search as well.

Wyndy launched in Nashville one year ago, and students at local universities like Vanderbilt and Belmont have been helping families all across the greater Nashville area ever since. As demand from parents continues to rise, students from MTSU, Lipscomb, Trevecca and more have joined the Wyndy ranks.
