Metro Schools Needs To Hire 189 Before School Starts

Metro Schools has nearly 200 job vacancies, many in high-need positions.

NASHVILLE, TN -- With a month left until the first bell rings, Metro Schools still needs to fill 189 job vacancies.

That number may seem high, but it represents only about 3 percent of total jobs in the district and is down nearly 30 percent from last year's number of vacancies at the same time.

About half - 96 - of this year's vacancies are in high-need positions, which is fairly standard; the district says it needs 31 more special education teachers and 29 more for English-language learners.
