Nashville Unemployment Remains Historically Low

NASHVILLE, TN — Davidson County's unemployment rate ticked up 0.1 percent in May, but remains extremely low at 2.2 percent, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development. Metro's unemployment rate is the state's second lowest.

The unemployment rate increased in 75 counties, fell in eight and stayed the same in 12, but only two of the state's 95 counties have jobless rates above 5 percent.

Of the ten lowest county-level figures statewide, eight were in Middle Tennessee. The lowest figure belongs to Williamson County at 2.1 percent.

Davidson County is tops among the state's four largest metros, besting Knoxville's Knox County (25 percent), Chattanooga's Hamilton County (2.9 percent) and Memphis' Shelby County (3.7 percent).

Davidson County's unemployment rate dropped 0.2 percent from May 2017.

The state rate, reported last week, is 3.5 percent.
