Nashville Wow House: George Jones' Gift To Tammy Wynette
WOW House: "First Lady Acres," one of Nashville's most famous homes, is back on the market at a discount.
NASHVILLE, TN -- Like an unlucky-in-love heartsick heroine in a country song, the property at 4121 Franklin Pike has been on the market and off again. It's been listed, de-listed and re-listed a half dozen times in four years. And now First Lady Acres is back out there once again.
Given as a gift to the Tammy Wynette by her third husband, George Jones, in 1974, the eight acre property became known throughout the city as "First Lady Acres," an homage to Wynette, the First Lady of Country Music. Thankfully, it wasn't named for Jones, as "Possum Acres" doesn't quite have the same air of gentility.

Wynette and her fifth (and final) husband George Richey sold the home in 1992 and eventually it wound up in the hands of bluegrass legend Earl Scruggs. Even with all of Nashville's stately homes, celebrity residents and old money, few bear that sort of lineage.
Even notwithstanding its royal heritage, the property would be a coveted showpiece. While Franklin Pike is dotted with stately colonials and Tudors and big, horse-friendly spreads, First Lady Acres is a pristine example of mid-century modernism with a recent renovation that echoes California design. In addition to nearly 10,000 square feet of living space, the property has a pool, a putting green and a helipad.
