Autism Tennessee, a nonprofit dedicated to providing support to people with autism and their families, shares its story with Patch.

NASHVILLE, TN - Patch talks to Autism Tennessee about the work it's doing to empower individuals with autism and their families.

Patch: Tell Patch a little bit about your organization!

Autism Tennessee: Autism TN exists to enrich the lives and experiences of individuals on the autism spectrum, their families, and their surrounding community through support, advocacy, and education. We are an information and resource center and also offer many educational and family fun events to our community.

Patch: How does your organization help to strengthen the local community?

Autism Tennessee: Autism TN covers the entire Middle TN area, so any monies collected go right back into services and program that benefit this community. We try to connect people who may be feeling alone and isolated to others who understand what it's like walking the autism road. In that vein, we also have County Contacts is most of the communities we serve who are there for support, local information and the like.

Patch: What is the biggest struggle your organization faces?

Autism Tennessee: Reaching newly-diagnosed families in their most vulnerable state due to the isolating nature of autism.

Patch: What do you hope for the future of your nonprofit?

Autism Tennessee: To be able to connect to the 35,000 or so individuals in the Middle TN area who are on the autism spectrum and provide them with a sense of community and support.
