North Nashville Man Shot In Head, SWAT Standoff Ensues

A late night shooting in North Nashville led to an early morning standoff.

NASHVILLE, TN -- A man was shot in the head near a North Nashville public housing complex Tuesday n night, prompting a Wednesday morning standoff involving Metro Police's SWAT team.

A patrol officer heard gunshots near the Cumberland View Apartments around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday and found a man in his 20s shot in the back of the head lying on the ground. The man was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Officers also said a utility pole was lying on the ground nearby, indicating there may have also been a car crash, though the vehicle involved had not been located.

Investigators said they used cameras at the public-housing complex to identify "persons of interest" and returned to the scene with warrants Wednesday morning. With rifles and a circular saw, the SWAT team urged occupants of a specific unit to come out. One man was taken into custody and officers entered the apartment and were later seen leaving with a child and a baby.

Police said "several people" are being questioned and that the operation went smoothly Wednesday.
