Subtropical Storm Alberto To Bring Heavy Rain, Storms To Midstate

Soaking rains and strong storms are likely to lash Middle Tennessee as Alberto surges inland.

NASHVILLE, TN -- Subtropical storm Alberto will push inland after the three-day weekend and make its way to Middle Tennessee, bringing heavy rains and storms likely to last through the end of the week.

After soaking the Gulf Coast, the storm will reach the Midstate Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service, bringing the possibility of damaging winds.

"For locations generally along and east of the I-65 corridor Tuesday into Tuesday Night, strong to severe thunderstorms may develop. Main concerns with any strong to severe thunderstorms that develop will be strong to damaging winds along with a couple brief tornadoes," the NWS office in Old Hickory said. "Storm total rainfall amounts from Tuesday into Tuesday night are currently expected to range from around three quarters of an inch across the Cumberland Plateau Region to around two and one half inches across locations around and west of I-65 Corridor and along and south of the I-40 Corridor."

When Alberto exits the region Wednesday, strong southerly winds will follow, carrying in rain and storms through at least Saturday. By the end of it all, parts of Middle Tennessee could see upwards of 5 inches of rain, according to the weather service.
