Watch Nashville Predator PK Subban's Christmas Surprise

As he's done for the last four years, Nashville Predators defenseman P.K. Subban brightens up the Christmas season in a heartwarming video.

NASHVILLE, TN -- Nashville Predators defenseman P.K. Subban is nearly as famous for his charitable efforts as he is for world-class hockey skills.

Before his trade from Montreal to Nashville, the former Norris Trophy winner pledged $10 million to the children's hospital there and was honored with Canada's Meritorious Service Cross for the donation. Last year at Christmas, dressed nattily as a hansom cab driver, Subban took a group of kids from the Vanderbilt-Meharry Center for Sickle Cell Disease for a ride through Nashville ending with a shopping spree.

This year's edition of the P.K. Subban Holiday Surprise saw the blueliner dressed as his 75-year-old alter ego "Eddie," who Subban said is a Tennessean and would thus have an accent, though the Ontario native made no warrant as to the authenticity of the accent.

In his disguise, Subban walked through Nashville distributing candy canes and envelopes to passersby. Within the envelopes were Christmas surprises including a complimentary suite at Nashville's Renaissance Hotel and tickets to Bridgestone Arena events.

Then, Subban shared the story of one of the families from his Blueline Buddies initiative, which connects low-income and inner-city families with Metro Nashville Police officers, sending them to dinner and a Preds game in an effort to build bridges between law enforcement and the community.

The family's son said he was aware that, at times, his family has struggles.

"I really don't want them to know I know about it because it might make them sadder," he said, in one of the video's most touching moments.

Asked what she wanted for Christmas, his mom said new furniture for the living room.

"Other than that, we don't have to have nothing as long as we have each other," she said, in another scene that pulls the heartstrings.

Subban (still dressed as Eddie, by the way), with the help of Predators captain Roman Josi, then fills the family's home with new furniture and Christmas presents and decorations, while renowned Chef Antonio Park stocks the kitchen and prepares a four-course meal.

The family returns home to the surprise - sort of, as the little boy, incredulous, immediately identified Eddie as Subban - in a tearful and happy scene.
