1 Dead, CBP Agent Injured During Traffic Stop In South Texas

The shooting happened Friday night near Bracketville, Texas, according to Customs and Border Patrol.

BRACKETVILLE, TX — A U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent was shot and injured during a vehicle stop in south Texas and one of the car's occupants was shot dead in response, according to a statement from the agency.

Around 8 p.m. on Friday, two Bracketville border patrol station agents performed a vehicle stop when one of the car's occupants shot an agent, officials said. The second agent fired back and shot the occupant who died at the scene.

The second person in the car was taken into custody.

The injured agent suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The CBP said the shooting is under investigation by the FBI, the agency's office of professional responsibilty and the Texas Rangers.
