4 Killed In Leon County Plane Crash Near Hilltop Lakes

Engine failure has been cited as the cause of the deadly plane wreck near Hilltop Lakes, some 126 miles from Austin in rural Texas.

HILLTOP LAKES, TX — Four people were killed in a plane crash in rural Texas on Sunday.

Identities of the fatal victims of the wreck reported in Leon County near the Hilltop Lakes stables were not available as of Sunday afternoon around 3 p.m., KBTX reporter Jessica Gruenling said on Twitter.

Passengers took off from an area near Austin and were bound for Louisiana when the plane began to sustain engine issues, according to a KWTX report citing law enforcement officials. The crash occurred while the pilot was attempting to make an emergency landing at the Hilltop Lakes Airport around 10:45 a.m., the report states.

The crash site is 126 miles from Austin, 46 miles from College Station.

Earlier in the day, three people were killed in a plane crash near Kokomo, Indiana.
