Columbus ISD Cancels Classes Monday After Online Threat
Police in Columbus are looking into a threat that forced school officials to close for the day for the safety of staff and students.

COLUMBUS, TX — School officials in Columbus ISD canceled classes at all five campuses after district administrators received a threat on social media late Sunday night. District officials said they were alerted just before midnight that a threat had been made against students via the Snapchat social media site.
Officials turned the matter over to police and felt the threat was serious enough to warrant closing all the district’s five campuses.

This latest threat comes just four months after a 17-year-old student allegedly shot and killed 10 people inside Santa Fe High School. Since classes resumed in August, a Morton Ranch High School student has been arrested and charged with making a terroristic threat while two Galveston area students are facing criminal charges.
One of those students allegedly made threats while another was arrested for bringing an unloaded gun to school.

Other Houston area school districts that have received threats of violence include Texas City ISD and Santa Fe ISD.
Columbus is located about 70 miles east of Houston in Colorado County.
