2nd Bomb Found In Beaumont Explodes At Church

A device left on the front door of a Beaumont church exploded two weeks after another device was found outside a nearby Starbucks

BEAUMONT, TX - A device left on the front door of a Beaumont church exploded two weeks after another device was found outside a nearby Starbucks, according to multiple reports.

According to the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, the church explosion broke several windows and the front of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church was damaged sometime between the end of worship services Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning.

Neighbors reported hearing a loud noise Wednesday night. Police responded to a call about 9 a.m. Thursday. No one was injured.

The explosive device found outside a Beaumont Starbucks on April 27 did not explode, Heavy.com reported. A Starbucks employee found the device and a note on the package. After reading the note, the employee called police. Bomb technicians were able to defuse it. Police have not released information about the note or the device.

Police Chief Jim Singletary has not commented on whether the devices are linked or whether authorities have any suspects.

The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have joined the investigation.

The church and the All Saints Episcopal School next door remain closed.

Over a three-week period in March, the Austin area was hit with a series of package bombs that killed two people and injured five others. The bomber, Mark Conditt, died in a confrontation with police near Austin.
